In the summer time the lake is a the lake is a little dirty with algae and there is hardly any current on the river. Paddling is more like hoping you do't fall in. The park is merely an open area in … Full review by Ortwin

The walk along this lake was very scenic with great views of the downtown buildings and of the Capitol Building. It was a mostly dirt road. It could be buggy, and it was a great place to view the bat… Full review by TennisStar602

On Lake Austin, Hula Hut ( Mexican and more) Mozart's café parking lot. Lady Bird Lake has a couple. Joe's Crab Shack ( if it is still there) and one other. Four Season has views $$$$$ I think there is still a bar at the Hyatt with views... Wish I could be more helpful. With traffic etc, don't go downtown much unless I have to and I only live 10 minutes away. Great city lots to see do and eat.... hope this helps.
Can you swim on here? I have been trying to research water events and beach areas?

I would definitely NOT swim in Town Lake. Research water quality for that particular lake. Paddling was okay, incidental contact with the water was ok. ( I suck at kayaking and wore a bunch of the lake home) But I went directly to the hotel and showered afterward.

Parking - Lots of it! Just depends on where you are staying or arriving along the 10 mile hike & bike trail around the lake. If east of IH-35, we suggest you Google the Austin Hostel and park near the lake on the south side along Lake Shore Blvd. A terrific coffee shop when you are done is Cenote on E. Cesar Chaves. If you are in or near downtown, you can park near The Long Center including in their parking garage or in open parking slots along Riverside there, too. Try Joe's Coffee on S. Congress afterward. If you arrive at Zilker Park, there are many parking lots in the park. Try Austin Java afterward on Barton Springs Road. If you arrive on the north side, Google Austin High School and look for parking nearby the school by the rowing dock. You can hit many places on that side for coffee back along Lamar Blvd.
