The Celtics’ worst fears were confirmed. Their nightmare became reality. Jayson Tatum did in fact tear his right Achilles and underwent surgery on Tuesday, the team announced. He is likely to miss all of next season as a result.
Fans feared the worst as it was a non-contact injury, and while on the floor, he grabbed the back of his right leg. He was eventually helped up by Celtics staff and was unable to put any weight on his left leg as he was led to the back of the arena. Footage later caught him being rolled around in a wheelchair through the hallways.
There is not word as of yet exactly what the injury is, but based on the fact that it was non-contact, and Tatum was wheeled to the locker room holding the back of his ankle, there is a belief that it is something to do with his Achilles tendon. After the game, notable Celtics fan Bill Simmons reacted on his live podcast.
