General Motors has cracked the chemistry of lower-cost, energy-dense electric vehicle batteries. Budget-conscious gasoline holdouts may soon have no excuse.

GM plans to provide premium range EVs at much reduced prices by 2028 thanks to its newly-developed LMR batteries.

GM says it has developed cells that will make batteries cheaper and more energy dense. The automaker aims to be the first to bring them to market.
