The policy applies to some foreigners, including Americans, who are traveling through China and another country.

China said Tuesday it was expanding its visa-free transit policy, allowing eligible foreign travelers to stay in parts of the country as long as 10 days.

In its efforts to attract visitors, the country extended stays from less than a week to up to 10 days for visitors between destinations.

China announced on Tuesday a relaxation of its visa-free transit policy, extending the permitted stay for eligible foreign travellers to 240 hours, or 10 days, from the original 72-144 hours, as authorities aim to lure more foreign visitors.
