Magic Johnson gave insight to some of the players that were almost Lakers during his time with Los Angeles' front office.

There seem to be two schools of thinking when it comes to the potential this season's Los Angeles Lakers have. Many have felt that they, at best, will struggle to reach the play-in tournament, but others feel they simply need a little help from the trade market to become very competitive.

An old wound was reopened recently when Los Angeles Lakers Hall of Famer Magic Johnson guested on Fox's "Speak" talk show. Co-host Keyshawn Johnson was asking Earvin about what the Purple & Gold could do to become championship contenders this season when Keyshawn innocently threw DeMar DeRozan's name into the conversation.
