A Russian general assassinated by Ukraine was buried with full military honours on Friday and posthumously granted a top award, as Moscow launched an apparent revenge attack on what it said was a Ukrainian intelligence service command centre in Kyiv.

Kirillov ran Russia’s nuclear, biological and chemical defense forces. Kyiv previously accused him of ordering the use of chemical weapons against Ukraine.

Kirillov, who was chief of Russia ’s nuclear, biological and chemical protection troops, was killed outside his apartment building on Tuesday along with his assistant when a bomb hidden in an electric scooter went off. He is the most senior Russian military officer to be assassinated in Russia by Ukraine.
