D Gukesh created history recently, becoming the youngest-ever world chess champion at the age of 18. The Indian grandmaster came out on top against defending champion Ding Liren in the decisive fourteenth game of the World Chess Championship in Singapore.

Chess grandmaster Magnus Carlsen stirred the pot by declaring faster chess formats the "pure sport", criticising classical chess for being "too forgiving". He argued that rapid and blitz chess better reflect a player's all-around skills.

Magnus Carlsen, a five-time world champion, has criticised the classical chess format, saying that the rapid format is “pure sport”. It is also to be noted that the Norwegian was also critical of the quality of the World Championship match between D Gukesh and Ding Liren.

D Gukesh reigned supreme in Singapore, as he defeated defending champion Ding Liren at the World Chess Championship on Thursday. The win made the Indian Grandmaster the youngest-ever world champion at the age of 18.
