Netflix reaffirmed its dominance of the streaming video market on Tuesday, as its mixture of live sporting events, popular returning series - and singular moments, such as a football halftime performance by Beyonce - helped attract a record number of subscribers over the holiday quarter.

Netflix announced Tuesday it will raise prices on most of its subscription tiers in the US and Canada after the streaming giant reported 19 million new subscribers in the last quarter of 2024.

The streaming giant hosted its record-breaking boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, and its first ever NFL games, in the quarter.

Netflix will raise prices across a number of countries after adding nearly 19 million subscribers in the final months of 2024. The streaming firm said it will increase subscription costs in the US, Canada, Argentina and Portugal. Asked if prices were set to increase in the UK, a spokesperson for Netflix said there was "nothing to share right now".

The company raised subscription prices across most plans in the U.S. and several other markets. It added 19 million subscribers in the fourth quarter of last year.

The streaming giant is upping the cost of its standard ad-supported tier to $7.99 a month in the U.S., up from $6.99, and the standard plan is increasing by $2.

Under the new pricing in the U.S., Netflix’s Standard plan without ads will rise by $2.50 — going from $15.49 to $17.99 per month. It’s been three years since Netflix upped the pricing of the Standard tier, which provides two simultaneous HD streams.
