A thick layer of fog engulfed parts of Kashmir on Saturday as the valley braces for widespread snowfall, with the possibility of heavy snow over the middle and the higher reaches, officials said

Srinagar city was enveloped in dense fog in the morning and all morning flights at Srinagar international airport were delayed due to poor visibility.

Bone-chilling cold continued across Kashmir on Friday as dense fog made pedestrian and traffic movement difficult in the morning in J&K’s Srinagar city. A thick blanket of fog covered Srinagar city and suburban areas as the unabated cold continued.

Srinagar recorded about eight inches of snow while neighbouring Ganderbal recorded about seven inches. Sonamarg, a famous tourist destination, recorded around eight inches of snow. As many as 80 flights were cancelled.

Normal life was thrown out of gear in Kashmir as most areas of the valley received snowfall, disrupting flight and railway operations and also leading to the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.
