KL Rahul was on his way to playing one of the hundreds of a lifetime by an Indian batter in Australia but it wasn't to be as Steve Smith redeemed himself by plucking a blinder to dismiss the most solid-looking player for the visitors in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy on Day 4 of the Gabba Test.

First ball of the fourth day and Steve Smith dropped a dolly at the second slip, giving a reprieve to KL Rahul, who has been India’s best batter so far in this Test. It was a shocker from Steve Smith. Pat Cummins induced a thick edge and Smith couldn’t hold on to it. KL Rahul tapped his head in surprise as he also couldn’t believe his luck.

Later, Rahul went on to hit a half-century and was batting at 84 when Smith redeemed himself and took a stunner to dismiss the Indian batter. This time, spinner Nathan Lyon trapped Rahul, who tried to hit a boundary but ended up touching the thick edge on the ball.

Australia skipper Pat Cummins bowled the perfect line early on Day 4 and induced a thick edge off KL Rahul's bat, who was batting on 33. The catch went straight to Steve Smith but he dropped it, leaving himself flabbergasted.
