U.S. immigration detention is filled to capacity at 47,600 detainees, a senior U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement official said on a call with reporters on Wednesday, adding that the Trump administration was seeking more bed space.

President Donald Trump’s “largest-ever” mass deportation has led to the arrests of more than 32,000 illegal immigrants within the United States in his first 50 days in office, according to federal homeland security officials.

"We ended catch [and] release, and we have returned ICE to its core mission, which is arresting people who violate our immigration law," acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said. "Secretary Noem and I are changing the culture of ICE to one of action and accountability.
