The NHL world couldn't take their attention off Mikko Rantanen during the trade deadline as the Carolina Hurricanes star was dealt to the Dallas Stars in a deal that took longer than anticipated, and ended with an eight-year contract extension in place.

The Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars came close to a Mikko Rantanen trade in the early hours of Friday morning. The deal was entirely contingent on Rantanen signing an extension in Dallas, however.

Mark Jankowski and Logan Stankoven each scored and Frederik Andersen was stout in net to lead the Hurricanes to a fourth straight win.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Mark Jankowski scored two goals and the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 on Sunday. Logan Stankoven and Seth Jarvis also scored for the Hurricanes, who won their fourth straight game. Frederik Andersen stopped 20 shots. Alex Iafallo and Adam Lowry scored for the Jets, and Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves.
