The 4.037-acre blaze began shortly before 11 p.m. Dec. 9 in a Malibu Canyon area where a high volume of dry brush contributed to its rapid spread.

Despite the return of gusting Santa Ana winds, firefighters were able to prevent the Franklin fire in Malibu from spreading overnight, with the blaze remaining at 4,037 acres and containment increasing from 78% to 89%.

Crews have been making steady progress on the Franklin Fire in Malibu Canyon since the red flag conditions subsided.

Three schools shut down by the Franklin Fire in Malibu are reopening Monday and a fourth remains closed for repairs as containment of the 4,037-acre brushfire has grown to 54%, authorities said.
