The Chicago Board of Education voted Friday to fire Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez, clearing the way for the mayor to install a new leader after a monthslong power struggle.

Martinez will remain on the job for six more months, meaning CPS will continue contract talks with the teachers union under his leadership. Board president Sean Harden said he attended to provide support for the CPS team.
