With the holiday right around the corner, many are "dreaming of a White Christmas," but will it happen this year in Kentucky?

So how often does this happen for us? Based off recent climatology, the odds of seeing a white Christmas in Lexington is 18 percent. In fact, two of the last four Christmases in Lexington have indeed been a white Christmas which was in 2020 and in 2022. It’s only happened three times though since 2000.

According to a recent outlook for December from the NWS Louisville office, the chance of a white Christmas is low for Central Kentucky. For context, the agency defines a white Christmas as “having at least 1 inch of snow on the ground at 7 a.m. local time Christmas Day.”
