New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is sending additional National Guard members to patrol the subways for the holiday season in New York City, she announced this week. Hochul said she ordered 250 more Guard members into the subway system to help with safety of passengers and because of the increase in travelers through New York City during the holidays.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul is sending 250 additional National Guard officers into New York City’s subway system, adding to an initiative she begin in March to boost security on the nation’s largest transit network.

The added boots on the ground to bring the total number to 1,000 National Guard members monitoring the subways.
