Lee Cronin made a name for himself in horror circles with 2023’s Evil Dead Rise. Now, New Line’s tapped him to write and direct The Mummy, releasing April 17, 2026. The Hollywood Reporter broke the story.

The Mummy,' a new take on the film subgenre from Lee Cronin, is in the works at New Line, Deadline has confirmed.

Mummies tend to be the movie territory of Universal, which famously has the titular character part of its cabinet of monsters in the 1930s and 1940s and revived this century in movies starring Brendan Fraser and Tom Cruise. Hammer Films, however, did its own The Mummy movie in 1959 that starred Christopher Lee.

A Cronin project had been on the books for a while, announced earlier this year, but confirmation that it’s a new spin on The Mummy came today via an Instagram post from Cronin and Blumhouse. It reveals the script’s title page,
