The Dow managed to narrowly snap a 10-day losing streak, giving up most of its earlier gains to end slightly higher after Wednesday's 1,100-point drop.

The Dow plunged Wednesday on a disappointing outlook from the Federal Reserve. In the process, the blue-chip index extended its losing streak to 10 days — the longest such stretch since Gerald Ford was president.

The Dow just barely snapped its longest losing streak since 1974, after some dip buying earlier in the morning fizzled as the trading day unfolded. The blue-chip index rose just 16 points, or 0.04%, to end its losing streak at 10 sessions.
