The U.S. is considering banning the sale of TP-Link internet routers, which are made in China, over concerns the home devices pose a security risk, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The Journal reported that U.S. officials could block domestic sales of TP-Link routers next year. The ban would be implemented by OICTS, the Commerce Department office leading one of the investigations into the company. The office previously blocked Russian cybersecurity company Kaspersky from selling its software in the U.S.

The Shenzhen, China-based router manufacturer is reportedly under investigation by the Commerce, Defense and Justice Departments.

Having been a name appearing frequently in stories surrounding major cyber attacks for some time, the US government is now investigating TP-Link, whose consumer Wi-Fi devices are claimed to make up roughly 65% of the market.
